The marriage between fashion and rock ’n’ roll is something time eternal. In pop-music there have only been a handful of artists that have truly benefited from becoming a muse to the leading designers in the world of haute couture. Kylie Minogue is one of those telltale artists that has elevated fashion into a moving art exhibition on tour, and throughout her 25 years as a pop artist. She celebrates her career and many looks in the art book "Kylie / Fashion".

While Madonna has exploited and manipulated the latest styles on the runway and co-opted most as her own, and Lady GaGa has systematically existed to garishly mutate and overly-exaggerate her image to her advantage, Kylie has collaborated and celebrated the intricacy...and intimacy of fashion - expanding the art form with her music and dance interpretation.

The tome chronicles in pictures from Kylie’s own archive her transformation from neophyte, to blond bombshell, and into international icon. Though there are moments that it would appear that Ms. Minogue was riffing on what was most popular in music video trends inspired by some of her more commercially successful counterparts. The late ’80s had Minogue fighting for a life preserver in a sea of Madonna’s Gaultier bras and Janet Jackson’s ripped jeans to Herb Ritts imagery. But it wasn’t long before Kylie’s own distinctive look would come to the surface.

The innate fashionista reveals in her commentary that it wasn’t until her very first shoot with Vogue where she was portrayed as a showgirl that her personal style emerged. And it offered a taste of what was yet to come. By the late ’90s the Impossible Princess had emerged. While the world was being spoon fed pre-fabricated pop confections (re: Britney and Christina) Kylie was fully coming into her own and winning hearts. Moving light speed ahead in contemporary classic styling from Véronique Leroy, Owen Gaster, Stella McCartney and more.

That today, Kylie - 25 years later - is still pop-music and fashion relevant is a phenomenal, but not all that surprising, achievement. The pop star has always surrounded herself with only the best from Gaultier (who dedicated the book’s forward) to Dolce & Gabbana who have outfitted her staged tours. From classic to couture, kabuki to clockwork "Kylie / Fashion" revels in a career that was destined for greatness and continues to astound...spinning around and into another 25!

"Tome?" You’re not a scholar, are you? BTW, can you think of another word for "thesaurus?" But thanks for covering Kylie, for whom there is no equal, and not even a contender within three rungs of her wonderfulness. She’s like Elvis Presley or Edith Piaf, spectacular and cosmic, rocketing to outer space in orbit.
