Need
Todd Gregory’s latest gay erotic book "Need" begins with an intriguing blood-throbbing premise but can’t sustain its early momentum through a satisfying climax.
Former frat boy Cord Logan is a gay vampire in New Orleans intent on torturing himself beyond the want and need to feed on human prey. Cord pushes himself so far beyond the need that when he stumbles down a side street he attacks the first person he comes upon who happens to be one of his former fraternity brothers, Jared. In a momentary panic Cord turns Jared into a vampire, takes him home to assist with his transformation but not before the two engage in a very intense sexual encounter in the foyer.
The target reading demographic for "Need" is not clear. If you’re a fan of gay erotica you’ll find pleasure in the multitude of steamy graphic man on man action but you’ll find the Goth, supernatural babble a limp impediment for sustained hard-on enjoyment.
If you’re a fan of the vampire genre, "Need" barely makes a bite. Trying to catch the wave of the now waning pop culture vamp craze, Gregory is in unfamiliar territory. Gregory introduces several concepts and characters which if explored could lead to a series of horrorotica books, but the concepts and characters disappear as quickly as they are introduced.
"Need" includes some woody passages but Gregory’s inability to successfully mesh the erotic and vampire genres results in a limp read.
