Epic tales have been woven and tearful ballads have been written for centuries about the great power of love. Most people know at least one soul for whom they would do just about anything. They would give their life, if it were necessary. "How I Found My Pussy and Lost My Mind" is the story of a woman who loses the love of her life and then goes to the end of her sanity to get him back. In the case of author and icon, Gina Gershon, her life-love happens to be a cat. His name is Cleohold.

For some pet owners, a cat is a fond companion and an enjoyable nuisance. For others, a cat can be an obsession, a fur-baby or a totem animal. (If you, gentle reader, have no idea what I’m talking about, I kindly suggest you stop reading. This book is not for you.) For Ms. Gershon, Mr. Cleohold is all of these things. He was her furry rock, an emotional foundation on which she could rely upon in times of need. So when Cleo went missing, Gershon appropriately went a little bonkers. She posted signs, walked the streets calling his name, and responded to all reports of Cleo - some of them vicious plots to collect on reward money. She met with psychics and went on retreats. She even endured dental surgery in order to connect to a higher-plane while on laughing gas. Bless her, Gershon exhausted her options and her mental stability to find her Cleo. She does find him but the book isn’t solely about retrieving her kitty. It’s also about testing her own limits as a woman.

Gershon is no Doris Lessing, but if you enjoyed "On Cats" then you are the target audience for "How I Found My Pussy and Lost My Mind." This is a devotional autobiography that chronicles the ups and downs of Gershon’s love and spiritual life. For every memory of beloved pets past, Gershon shares a deeply personal memory from her own life. Whether it’s the one-night stand in Europe with a handsome stranger that she compares to a Cleo imposter or the faith she puts into some psychic abilities, Gershon shares with the reader a side of herself not depicted by the media. This is a Gershon that some would scoff at. Her quirky writing and thoughtful anecdotes reveal a sweetness and vulnerability not readily seen in movies. Even if one can’t agree with her search tactics, one can admire her bravery for such brazen honesty.
