Without a doubt Adam Lambert has the distinction of setting himself apart from any of the contestants that have every appeared on the hit music competition show "American Idol." Clearly his unique sound and personality would live beyond the confines of the flatscreen, but in all fairness, before landing on the top 2, Lambert had been singing and performing professionally. The show was just the vehicle he needed to put him on the mainstream path to success as a recording artist.

On the compilation "Playlist: The Very Best of Adam Lambert," the one thing that is very clear is that it’s much too soon to be looking at a list of "greatest hits" from a pop act that’s only scratched the surface of a still thriving career. Yet, there are those among the pack that may have arrived late to the party, and if that’s the case, this collection is just what your iPod has been asking for.

Including Lambert’s hits to date and previously unreleased fan favorites, this playlist is a wonderful introduction to one of this generation’s most gifted vocalists. Sure there’s all the glam and glitz that followed Lambert off the "Idol" stage, and the controversy that would ensue from his "coming out," but if there’s anything for which you have to give Adam Lambert credit, it’s that he’s a consummate performer.

The 14-tracks include highlights from Lambert’s turn on "Idol" -¬†songs that he immediately worked to make his own including "Mad World" and "Tracks Of My Tears." There is also the premiere track "For Your Entertainment" that put him on the map, the Pharrell Williams club- thumper "Trespassing" and the Max Martin pop-tune "If I Had You." All arevendurable tracks that have launched many a comparison to contemporaries Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and legendary names including Freddie Mercury and Elton John.

"The very best"? It’s too soon to say, but in the meantime Adam Lambert is here for your entertainment and this is your front row ticket!
