As the late solo artist and former frontman for the seminal 70’s New York pre-punk rock band, Velvet Underground, Lou Reed was plunged into commercial success with his second solo effort, "Transformer." Released in 1972, under the masterful direction of David Bowie and Mick Ronson, the record became the foundation of the singer’s catalogue, supported by the mega-hit, "Walk on the Wild Side," and the anthem, "Perfect Day."

With the 2012 passing of the anti-rock star, Eagle Rock Entertainment has decided to re-issue the DVD of the "Classic Albums" episode of "Transformer," along with Reed’s live performance, "Live in Montreux (2000)." With this new release upgraded to surround sound and upscaled standard definition, it provides a generous aural reminder of the genius that was the soft-spoken poet, whose examination of the Andy Warhol-era Manhattan gave us a brutally honest look at a time that can be too easily forgotten underneath the technology and instant gratification world of YouTube and audio downloads.

Insightful interviews with Reed, Bowie, Ronson, engineer Ken Scott, and several of the session musicians who contributed to the record, provide an inspiring archive of the artistic album, from Bowie’s innovative background vocals on "Satellite of Love," to interviews with the characters whose antics became immortalized when Reed’s observation of them found their way into his lyric on top of the classic overdubbed bass line for "Walk on the Wild Side."

"Live at Montreux (2000)" catches Reed a generation later with a super-talented lineup of musicians (Mike Rathke on guitar, Fernando Saunders on bass, and "Thunder" Smith on drums) performing cuts from throughout Reed’s now extensive catalogue, with only "Perfect Day" representing the record that put Reed on the musical map.
