Dwight Yoakam. Brad Paisley. Alison Krauss. An album containing these well-known artists would gain the attention of a myriad of country music fans as to the cause or event special enough to gather them on one release. But throw in Sandra Boynton’s name, the children’s books author, whose credits include three books on the All-Time Bestselling Children’s Books (Publishers Weekly) and four New York Times Bestsellers, and the target market for this project drops 20-30 years. Yet Boynton has seamlessly crossed over into the children’s music world, garnering a Grammy nomination for her work, "Philadelphia Chickens," and continues to establish herself in the combination songbook / CD category. This release just adds to the huge success she has achieved in so many areas, from her books and recordings to her greeting cards (the "hippo-birdy two ewe" cards, for example).

Her latest project, "Frog Trouble," is her debut in the country genre, with performances from the three superstars mentioned above, along with Darius Rucker (Hootie and the Blowfish), Broadway star Linda Eder, and indie rock fave Ben Folds. The book contains the complete lyrics and lead sheets to all of the 12 songs on this collection, all illustrated in Boynton’s instantly recognizable penmanship. Biographies of the artists and musicians involved in the recording, along with the CD of the songs, will provide an entertaining listen for country music lovers of all ages.

Highlights include "Broken Piano," predictably delivered by Folds, "Copycat," a traditional-style twanger strutted through by Paisley (with backing vocals by Fountains of Wayne), and the "Alligator Stroll," a line-dance number performed by Josh Turner. Nashville session pros led by Viktor Krauss (Alison’s brother) on bass, provide quality instrumentals for the tracks. Boynton and her writing partner, Michael Ford, have created another release of catchy tunes that can provide a wonderful, musical introduction to younger ears, while bringing smiles to the older ones.
