WeHo Country Edge: Club Update

Kevin Mark Kline READ TIME: 2 MIN.

At first we were slightly skeptical. The numbers were thin and the crowds seemed to walk in and then walk out. All we could think of was OMG, what does it take to get WeHo's attention?

We knew there was an audience for country, but, how to tap into it? Ok, so, Los Angeles isn't the country hubbub of America.

That was several months ago. Today the tables have turned.

Folks in West Hollywood are starving for good country, southern rock and rock n' roll and men who tend to forget to wear shirts.

So Country Jack Wednesday Nights at Club 11 seem to have exploded.

The crowds are now fierce and DJ Rick is now teaching basic line dances between spinning.

The music starts at 9:30 p.m. and continues through 2:00 a.m. Have your requests ready cause Rick loves to play them. Anyone for Foghat, AD/DC, Bon Jovi, Journey and Poison? How about Pat Benatar and Joan Jett?

For the tamer folks, we've got Belinda Carlisle. hey, don't laugh, she had two rock- tinged- smoky- voiced hits with "Summer Rain" and "Mad About You". And, of course, the country never stops.

Club 11 can also brag about being a great restaurant and dining experience with a wisely priced menu and excellent service. Try their fish plates and their caesar salad has some of the best 'secret dressing' we've ever tasted.

Now, back to the music. As the stereo thumps country, you'll be entertained by the hottest go go boys around. Handsome cowboys who actually mingle between their dance sets and make you feel most welcomed.

Never mind the fact that all of them tend to forget to wear their shirts.

Oil Can Harry's has over 40 years of country tradition with the gay community.

The iconic 'tavern' is located exactly 7 miles away from WeHo in WeHo's sister city, Studio City at 11502 Ventura Blvd. Couples dance classes, with DJ Brett, are Tuesday & Thursday nights starting at 8:00 p.m.- 9:15 p.m.

Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Open dancing is from 9:15 pm. - 12:30 a.m. Friday night country is with DJ Rick teaching line dancing at 9:00 p.m.- 9:45 p.m. Doors open at 8:00 p.m. Open dancing is from 9:45 p.m.- 2:00 a.m.

On Sundays, OCH's now provides you a fully catered brunch from 11:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. by Layne Catering at a price of $15.00 for all you can eat. Take it from us, folks, it's worth every penny.

Country dancing starts at 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. Now, let's not forget about OCH's Famous Disco Saturday Night from 8:00 p.m. - 2:00 a.m. The best dance hits of the disco era with a plash of current dance hits. Did someone yell "Lady Ga Ga & Madonna?"

Hey, wait till "Xanado" spins around midnight, the whole floor goes crazy. in a good dance way.
