Queen - Greatest Video Hits

Even though their last release, "Made in Heaven," hit the shelves back in 1995, Queen still remains one of the top-selling acts of all time. Eagle Rock Entertainment has put together this compilation of the supergroup's videos, entitled "Queen - Greatest Video Hits," to once again remind us of the amazing artistry and innovation the band displayed during its twenty-plus year career with Freddie Mercury (1946-1991) as their frontman / guiding light. One cannot help watching this set of hits, including the classics "Bohemian Rhapsody," "We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions," and "Under Pressure" and wonder how far the band could have pushed the limits of music and art had Mercury not died so young.

All of these hits have been previously released, but seeing them all together, and not in chronological order, gives one the opportunity to see the many different directions the band's music explored, from heartfelt ballads (1977's "Spread Your Wings"), choral epics ("Somebody to Love"), and movie soundtracks (1980's "Flash" for the film, "Flash Gordon"), through their experimental "disco-erotica" phase ("Body Language" from 1982's "Hot Space") and their out-and-out rock-and-roll jams (from 1976's "Tie Your Mother Down" to 1989's anthemic "I Want It All").

The retrospective ends with 1989's release, "The Miracle," which re-established Queen's place atop the rock-and-roll throne after a short lapse of U.S. attention, with only 1991's "Innuendo" fully completed before Mercury's AIDS-related death. A comprehensive narrative from remaining members Brian May and Roger Taylor (bassist John Deacon left the band permanently after Mercury died) provides nostalgic insight into these Queen gems. Taylor and May have made a few attempts to generate new material in the past ten years under the Queen moniker, but sitting through this release with help the viewer understand the sense the loss that they (and their fans) must still feel without their beloved lead singer.
