The Vampire Diaries - The Complete Third Season

"The Vampire Diaries" has evolved from a teen drama into an unstoppable behemoth of sexy, entertaining supernatural drama. The third season, available on DVD, pulls no punches in the drama department. It's a constant rush of sex, suspense and shocking twists.

The third season focuses on the origins of vampirism in the form of The Originals - a family of seemingly indestructible vampires led by Season 2 villain Klaus (Joseph Morgan). The season also focuses on Stefan (Paul Wesley) getting a badass evil makeover. All the while, the body count keeps growing with hybrids, serial killers and thousand year old witches.

The DVD set of the season includes two behind-the-scenes featurettes. "Stefan's Descent into Darkness" explains just that. The writers and cast discuss Wesley's drastic character shift in Season 3. "The Original Vampires: The Beginning" recaps the origin story of the series' first vampires. It includes a recap of their time on the show, a breakdown of who they are and interviews with the actors and writers. There is also a vampire specialist who discusses how the origin story of "Vampire Diaries" corresponds with historical vampire lore. There are also unaired scenes and "Second Bite" the hilarious gag reel. The DVD includes a static menu that really downgrades the experience. It looks pretty budget and only includes a short segment of music that plays over and over again until you press play.

"The Vampire Diaries" never fails to deliver on sex appeal, breathless moments and supernatural action. The third season delivers it in spades and spans all of human history to deliver a pretty amazing season.
