Love Actually - 10th Anniversary Edition

The quintessential movie about love and Christmas, "Love Actually" gets a stunning Blu-ray upgrade, even though the extras are status quo. The ten intersecting stories of love- British style - could have been a schmaltzy mess of Nancy Meyer's eye-rolling madness, but instead, Richard Curtis' exploration of the four-letter word is genuine and heartfelt.

Ten years later, its popular cast, including Liam Neeson, Emma Thompson, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Billy Nighy, and Kiera Knightly, is now moving over for new bonafide stars like Chiwetel Ejiofor ("12 Years A Slave"), Martin Freeman ("Bilbo!"), Andrew Lincoln ("The Walking Dead"), and Rodrigo Santoro ("300"). Truly it's an all-star cast now.

With its charming use of music, ribald humor, and sincere emotion "Love Actually" avoids the Garry Marshall clich�'s of over-doing the sentiment by hitting it too on the nose. Curtis gives us a range of interesting characters with real problems and real stakes. While it still might end in a fairly neat bow, the ride is well worth taking. And on Blu-ray, the colors explode off the screen like the holiday confection that it is.

Special Features offer nothing much newer from the 2004 DVD release, but there is a holiday ornament inside the packaging for those that want to hang a little love on their Christmas tree.
