In New Interview, Raven-Symoné Opens Up About Personal Life

Last month, Raven-Symoné surprised fans when she announced she was married and introduced her new wife via Instagram. Now the actor is opening up with People magazine about her sexuality, being a newlywed, body image issues and more.

Raven-Symoné, 36, tied the knot with Miranda Pearman-Maday, 32, and is making a statement about her life with new music. An album called "The Reintroduction" is in the works and the actor says she's rolling it out "slowly" over the next few weeks. Four new songs are out now.

"Despite being someone who has kept my personal life private, I decided to share this moment because it's one of the biggest and happiest of my life," she told People. "Miranda makes me feel confident and empowered in an entirely new way. We planned our ceremony together and it was a true reflection of our love and partnership."

She went on to talk about her sexuality – a subject Raven-Symoné rarely discusses.

"I just remember an older person in my life saying, 'Oh my gosh, that guy's so cute. Look at him. That's the kind of person you should be with," she said. "I'm like, 'Yeah, he's so cute, right?' I was playing the role."

She went on to say that when she took a break from Hollywood in 2013, she was able to focus on herself and her journey with her identity.

"What it did was help me with my sexuality. I actually had time to think for myself and no one to tell me differently," Raven-Symoné told People. "It helped me realize that I'm kind of addicted to the industry because of the fact I had been in it for so long. I had to transform that addiction into something that is positive for me because I was getting very toxic to myself and others."

Now married, she's entering a new phase of her career where she says she can be more reflective and expressive. "The Reintroduction" is her first album in 12 years.

"I get to make new plans with a brilliant woman, and we get to create an empire for ourselves," she said. "We get to map out our future in ways that we want."
