The Nightmare On Elm Street Collection
Holy shoulderpads! If you forgot how ridiculous 80’s hair and clothing was, you’re in for a treat when Freddy comes to your big screen on Blu-Ray. This new collection - a remastering of the existing DVD groupings already on the market - is a respectable uptick in video and audio quality, which for many fans will render the set a must-own. We’re talking 15 hours of half-naked, sleepless, horny teenagers being systematically cut down by a man with unnaturally long fingernails: what’s not to love?
Warner Bros. brings Wes Craven’s brilliantly suspenseful original to new life with 7:1 surround sound on its own disc - the rest double up on three. Fans will recall that each subsequent film largely waters down the horror of its predecessors, until you’re rooting for Freddy to dispatch the increasingly less interesting heroes in increasingly more gruesome ways. They’re tons of fun - particularly film #2, which offers an extraordinary amount of homoeroticism, including an S&M play, shower scenes and more pectorals than you could swing a jockstrap at.
For the most part, the transfers won’t wow - let’s be honest, these weren’t films known for technical quality anyway. Special features are immense - they include three hours of fun content on Disc 5 including documentaries, interviews, trailers and featurettes.
