Alison Goldfrapp

Blasting off into a week of new dance releases, Goldfrapp is back with brand-new track "Rocket." The British electronic band takes its synth cues from Van Halen’s ’80s classic "Jump" for this fun pop-dance odyssey (written and produced by the duo of Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory) where Alison vows to put a cheating lover on a rocket and blast him into deep space, never to return. It’s the first song off their fifth studio album, Head First, due March 2. We’re ready to dive in!

Another European group we’re loving is the male act Example with his new song "Won’t Go Quietly." The pop-electro-rap hybrid is an example of some music that we’ll be putting on blast in the months to come. And it’s already got some great remixes by Wideboys, E.P.I.C. and Men in Masks that won’t goquietly either, .

Speaking of male bands, cartoon conception band Gorillaz have released stylish "Stylo," the first track off their third album Plastic Beach. Due March 9, the album features a long list of interesting collaborators including Snoop Dogg, De La Soul, Lou Reed, Mos Def, Mark E. Smith, and even Clash members Mick Jones and Paul Simonon reuniting on the title track. As with previous releases, the concept band offers up a fictitious (but nonetheless amusing) back story of how the album was recorded: "On a secret floating island deep in the South Pacific, a Plastic Beach HQ, made up of the detritus, debris and washed-up remnants of humanity. This Plastic Beach is the furthest point from any landmass on Earth; the most deserted spot on the planet."

Rounding out our dance releases, after tepid reception to her first single "Somebody to Love," Gossip Girl’s sexy actress and aspiring pop singer Leighton Meester is back with dance track "Your Love’s a Drug" from her forthcoming debut album, Love is a Drug. While at this point it’s pretty clear she’s a graduate of the Heidi Montag/Paris Hilton school of vocals (ahem), the song itself is quite cute with its ABBA-esque chorus and breezy verses. A far better effort than the first! Slated for a spring release, the timing of the song may not be the best, however, considering new pop sensation Ke$ha has a nearly identically titled song on her No. 1 album, Animal, called "Your Love is My Drug." Ke$ha’s song-with its hip delivery and superior production quality-is already the third-most-downloaded song off her album (and reached iTunes’ Top 10 without even being released as a single yet). Let the Gossip Girl-style catfight begin! XOXO
