Gay of our ’Lives’?
While other soaps have had gay characters and story lines over the years, "Days Of Our Lives" has never been one to prominently include gay characters or story lines. Perhaps that is due more to the fickle (and oftentimes conservative) sponsors.
That may be why it is worth noting that the fictional town of Salem raised its rainbow flag this week as Sonny Kiriakis (played by Freddie Smith, best known for playing another gay character - and smooching with hottie Trevor Donovan on "90210") came out to his old-fashioned Uncle Victor (played by John Aniston).

However, as Smith told EDGE recently at the 38th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards in Las Vegas, Sonny’s story line will not be the usual coming out story. In fact, Sonny is comfortable with his sexuality, so if there are to be issues with it, they will likely be expressed by other Salemites (like Uncle Vic). And it may be only a matter of time before Sonny hooks up with one of Salem’s not-out-yet characters.
EDGE also talked to actors Judi Evans and Wally Kurth, who play Sonny’s parents Adrienne and Justin Kiriakis, as well as Camila Banus, who reveals which character will be coming out of the closet soon and, we hope, engages in a bedroom romp with Sonny.
"Days Of Our Lives" airs every weekday on NBC. Check local listings for air times.
