Average US 30-Year Mortgage Rate at 4.12 Percent

Average long-term U.S. mortgage rates rose slightly this week but remained near their lows for the year. Mortgage company Freddie Mac said the nationwide average for a 30-year loan edged up to 4.12 percent from 4.10 percent last week.

Stocks Decline Amid Interest Rate Worries

The prospect of rising interest rates sent the stock market to its first weekly loss since early August. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 11.91 points, or 0.6 percent, to end at 1,985.54 on Friday. The index was down 1.1 percent for the week.
