Defense Secretary Robert Gates is telling troops not to be distracted by the political debate over gays serving openly in the military.

In a special videotaped message to the armed forces Friday, Gates says the military’s review of how to implement a change in the "don’t ask, don’t tell" policy will go forward. He says nothing will change while the review continues and that it’s more important than ever for men and women in uniform to help with the study so the policy change can be done right.

Officials say Gates wanted to speak directly to troops because of action on the issue on Capitol Hill. The Senate Armed Services Committee and the full House approved measures Thursday to repeal the 1993 law that allows gay people to serve only if they hide their sexual orientation.

Don’t worry Mr Gates, I’m not distracted and I wish you would have done something about the injustice instead of passing on the real work to congress. I welcome the change and my gay military brothers and sisters. I’m sick of having my government direspect the honorable men and women that I still serve with today!

I’m sick of people telling military members how things are although you can still get kicked out for being gay everyone in the military knows someone who is serving and gay yet we have accepted it more then civilians have

Let’s all keep in mind one important fact. It is now 2010, not 1910.

Get on with it, it’s disgraceful how we treat gay people in the greatest country on earth.

The winds of change are unstoppable. It is taking longer than is right, but the right thing is happening. Next, nationalarraige equality!
