Officials from GOProud, a gay conservative group, announced that they will be holding an event during the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. called Homocon. The event sports a number of guest speakers, including the editor of the conservative news and opinion website Breitbart, Dana Loesch.

"Homocon 2012 will be the must have ticket for the RNC," Jimmy LaSalvia, executive director and co-founder of GOProud, said in a statement. "Our special guests will be a who’s who of the conservative movement."

Other speakers include author and CNN contributor Mary Matalin, former U.S. spokesman at the United Nations Richard Grenell (who was briefly the foreign policy spokesman for Mitt Romney’s campaign) and Will Cain, an analyst for the Blaze website.

Loesch, who hosts "The Dana Show," a radio talk show, recently harped on a Christian listener who defended same-sex marriage and said that she "hates Christ" for backing marriage equality, Equality Matters reported.

"When it comes to gay marriage - to be frank, I believe the left uses gay people as pawns," Loesch once said. "I believe they use gay people and lesbians pawns against conservatives. They don’t care about rights; otherwise, they would be more critical of how they’re oppressed and murdered in Islamic countries. But it’s used as a wedge between citizens and the church."

Although Mary Matalin has said that gay marriage is not a civil right, she is considered part of the nascent movement in the GOP to move beyond the issue. Prominent gay Democratic Party operative David Mixner has said of her, "Mary Matalin, without a doubt, is one of the strongest voices within the Republican Party advocating equal rights for lesbians and gay men."

Will Cain, who also writes for the National Review, has described himself as a "pro-gay marriage supporter."

GOProud officials, who announced that they would be supporting Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney as reported earlier by EDGE, also said they will announce more speakers in the weeks leading up to the event.

"Homocon 2012, like our previous events, will be more than just a party. It is an opportunity to show where the conservative movement is - and where it is going - in regards to the inclusion of gay people," Christopher R. Barron, GOProud co-founder and chief strategist said in a statement. "The left would like America to believe that it has a monopoly on gay people, and that only big government policies are good for gay Americans. Worse, the left wants America to believe that all conservatives are anti-gay. Nothing could be further from the truth."

Not all conservatives are anti gay just the huge majority. In my opinion any gay person who supports the republican party is a self loathing gay.

The title "Homocon 2012" is just about as embarrassing as this GoProud group.

They are not even really welcome at the convention and it still gulls me that a gay group of men and women choose not to look at a party that continually demonizes them and denies them the same rights they enjoy on a daily basis. One’s rights succumbed to capitalism and a conservative doctrine. I’m sorry these men and women are just plain ignorant.

this Loesch woman is a Sunday morning Christian Monday morning hypocrite, twisting around the Bible for her nasty HATEFULL point of view!

A pathetic group of self-loathing ineffective gay people. Pathetic!

It is illogical to think that being gay obligates you to support every other left wing policy. Whet good is it that the Democrats are pro gay if they are ruining the on everything else. Moreover, it is the better part of stupid to think that actual progress on marriage equality can be made without bi-partisan support. Let David Boos and Ted Olsen stand as a smarter example of a way forward than most of the comments here.

well Imbibe, say goodbye to Medicare and social security if your conservative friends get in.

GOProud members have to be the biggest bunch of self-hating losers I’ve ever heard of. NEWSFLASH: Mitt Romney and his troop DON’T WANT YOU! They kicked Richard Grenell (as competent and qualified as he is) out of their camp, and will return checks from Gay organizations that support their ticket. Do you not understand when you’re not wanted? It’s like a battered housewife who stays with her husband because eventually he might change. ROFLMAO...so pathetic!

Wow. Homocon. What fly by night outfit came up with that idea? The very name is divisive and offensive. Republicans never cease to amaze me in their ability to sink to new lows. Gay republicans truly have no place in this world. They hate themselves, and are hated by their fellow republicans.

GOProud is delusional. The overwhelming majority of GOP congressional officials actively work against LGBT interests. "One does not clean up a pig by jumping into the pig pen." Their support of rabidly anti-LGBT politicians merely reinforces their discriminatory legislation. Only when the politicians’ support dries up will they realize they are on the losing side of history and start to change their ways.

Lol. I can’t stop laughing at this article. When will people realize that equal rights in regards to marriage is not the left’s agenda? It’s called MY LIFE. This honestly does crack me up. I hope anyone that even thinks about going to this that is lesbian or gay understands when you go, you are just showing the nation that it’s ok to not have equal rights. And don’t I know that there a gay republicans on my friends list. Arggg. Just funny as hell!!! And what is Homocon??? Is that like a name from Star Wars or something???
