This event appeared on the general public's radar when fire-and-brimstone preachers blamed Hurricane Katrina on it. Last year, they were promising another of God's punishments, but the sun smiled on New Orleans. And why shouldn't it? Over its 42 years, Southern Decadence has evolved into one of the biggest annual festivals in New Orleans, a city that knows how to party. Over 120,000 revelers participate in a nonstop party weekend that has become not only the biggest LGBT event in the Big Easy, but one of the biggest in the country. It all culminates in an annual parade through the streets of the French Quarter; but before that, there are activities that center on the two big clubs in the Quarter, the Bourbon Pub and Parade. It begins with the Big Dick Contest (this is no-holds-barred N'Awlins), another street parade (ditto), more strip contests and dancing, dancing, dancing. Remember, there's no such thing as closing time in the Big Easy.
