In a major victory for gay rights, Maine became the first state whose voters decided in favor of same-sex marriage. Wisconsin’s Tammy Baldwin will become the first out-gay U.S. senator.

Openly lesbian Democrat Tammy Baldwin made history last night, emerging victorious over Republican Tommy Thompson in the battle to become the first Wisconsin woman and the first openly LGBT person to serve in the U.S. Senate.

LPAC, the first-ever lesbian political action committee, has vowed to support pro-lesbian, pro-woman candidates for office, foremost among those being Wisconsin Rep. Tammy Baldwin in her run for the U.S. Senate.

The gay conservative group GOProud has announced its support for the open Wisconsin U.S. Senate seat: Republican Tommy Thompson, who is running against openly gay U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin.
