The R320 is wearing a mask. Beneath its gold-sized wrapper, lies one of the most proficient and versatile vehicles on the market today. Unlike other hard-to-define luxury crossovers out there today which look like Chelsea gym boys puffing out their chests - I’m looking at you BMW X6 - the R is less flash and more brain than it would seem at first glance.

Finally, there’s a large, seven-passenger sport utility vehicle that has a higher fuel mileage rating than some five-passenger, family size sedans. In fact, the 2009 Mercedes-Benz GL320 SUV has a higher fuel economy rating than the six-cylinder-powered, 2009 Dodge Avenger, Chrysler Sebring, Mitsubishi Galant sedans and even bests several minivans as well as the compact Pontiac G6 with six-cylinder engine. If you ask any dyed-in-the-wool car buff which is the sexiest Mercedes-Benz, the current E-Class would probably place somewhere near the bottom of the list. Not that the E-Class in unattractive, it’s simply better represented by less provocative adjectives such as stylish, elegant and expensive. Sexy is reserved for such lovely gems as the CLS and SL. But for 2010, all that’s about the change with the introductions of a noticeably more fashion savvy E-Class Sedan and an all-new, all-sexy E Class Coupe.
